1. Skipping Sunscreen
Surprised to see sunscreen on this list? Many people don’t associate sunscreen with preventing dryness, but UV rays can seriously disrupt your skin’s moisture barrier. This barrier is what keeps hydration locked in, so when it’s weakened by sun exposure, your skin can lose water more easily. Whether it’s summer or winter, sunny or cloudy, indoors or outdoors, make SPF 30 or higher a daily habit. Your skin’s barrier will thank you!
2. Over-Exfoliating
Exfoliation is great for achieving that smooth, glowy skin, but overdoing it can actually dry you out. Too much exfoliation strips away the skin’s natural oils, leaving it more vulnerable to water loss and irritation. While it might be tempting to exfoliate daily, especially if you love that fresh-skin feeling, it’s best to stick to 1-2 times a week if you have dry skin. Listen to your skin’s needs, especially as seasons change and it may require even less exfoliation.
